Pictures of my little Halloween pun'kin.

What a nice day for the Day-After-Samhain, or Go-Crazy-on-Candy-Day. The sun is shining, the wind is up, at 10 am - it's supposed to get up to 60 MPH somewhere in the vicinity today - and the margin between fall and winter grows narrower by the day. Better bring in a load of firewood this afternoon. Just took a pot of Whatever-I-Could-Find-in-the-Fridge-Stew off the stove, and with my addition of summer savory and other herbs, it should be very pleasant for dinner, with some toasted Ezekiel bread.

I'm hoping to pick up a little bread making machine in town tomorrow. I want to make homemade rye bread - I have a nice recipe, but can't do the kneading, cause of my shoulder arthritis - so the bread hook in the machine will do the prep work, and then I can pop it into the wood stove to bake. I'm very fond of "The Great British Baking Show"— which airs on Netflix nowadays, tho I first saw it on PBS—but I can't eat all the sugar, butter and flour that most of the recipes have. Drool. Sigh.

Knee replacements went well, but then there were some other issues, so I just got out of the habit of posting on Saturday mornings. You know how that goes. And I can't promise I'm going to do this on a regular basis for a while, because I'm working hard on Secret Voices from the Forest—Volume Two: The East, and really want to get it released by April 1.

Anyway, I plan on revamping the emphasis of my posts, from "trees in the news" and "environmental happenings," in which I spent a whole lot of time scouring news outlets for anything positive about either (not so easy these days), to "Focus On."

I will select something, an animal or a plant, or perhaps even an ecosystem—who knows— and then, write an article about that. I find, in the research I do for my books, that I am happiest when I'm learning about the truly astounding intricacies of life on this planet, and that, I think, is something worth sharing.

P.S. to the person who replied to my blog post, "Things Change," if you really are a live person, and not one of these spam trolls, then go to Amazon and search under "Books" for "Secret Voices from the Forest," with my name - Laura J Merrill. Both books are there.

Later, dudes!
<![CDATA[Been busy]]>Sat, 01 Oct 2016 16:46:19 GMThttp://laurajmerrilltreetalker.com/blog/been-busyIt's been awhile, as you can see.

Lots of health things—2 knee replacements, gall bladder removal, and blood pressure issues. But all is well again, and I've resumed work on Volume Three of Secret Voices from the Forest: The East. Have finished all the Companion work and most of the Reflections pages, and intend to dedicate the fall and winter months to uninterrupted progress!!

So I'll be posting more often now, once I get back into my stride. Hope you had a good Black Moon yesterday and Happy First Day of October! :)]]>

I'm having so much fun throwing things out. I've been wanting to do this for years. My goal is to eliminate at least half of what I've collected over the years. Not going to be easy, and will be a slow process.

I decided the best way to do it is to think about it as though I had already exited this plane of existence, and that I'm the poor slob that has to come in and deal with all the stuff. In that case, 90% of everything here would get thrown out, given to charity, yard-saled.

My closet is already almost tolerable, after taking out about 8 large garbage bags of clothes and bedding to give to charity. Whew!

As they say, it never rains, but it pours. At the moment, I'm not going to go into detail, but over the course of the next year, my whole life is going to turn upside down. I hope for the better, or at least for the interesting.

Watch this space!

<![CDATA[EFT tapping]]>Sun, 22 Feb 2015 16:47:01 GMThttp://laurajmerrilltreetalker.com/blog/eft-tappingPicture
So, after learning from the doc that I need to lose A LOT of weight to be eligible to get my knee replacements (at least from him), I'm back to dealing with the underlying issues, which I assume are similar to everyone elses, in the sense that they stem from childhood and are sitting in the unconscious, where they have become very difficult to access!! After many years of trying everything - losing and gaining, blah, blah, you've heard it all - I've decided to try the EFT tapping method.

One of the issues for me has been that I really don't like going to therapists, because I end up feeling like a victim, resist whatever they have to offer, and am then back to square one, minus a few (or a lot of) bucks. This therapy has the distinct advantage of being FREE and SELF-administrated, so I'm doing it, and it seems to help some. I'm sure that if I did it 4 times a day instead of just 1, it would be more effective, and that can always happen. 😸

I should've known better than to try to schedule knee replacements during this time. For whatever reason, it isn't happening for now, and is probably a good thing. You may think I'm too out there believing that it matters what some little planet is doing, but I do.

Work does proceed with volume three ... slowly ... as I watch all the new releases on Netflix!!

Right. I WISH they looked like that!!

I'm trying out a recipe for chocolate chip cookies, using almond and coconut flour. Hard to tell about the results, cause I guess my wood stove was too hot. The first batch were black all the way through after only half the allotted time. Tsk, tsk. I'll wait to do the rest till the oven cools a bit.

In other personal news (not much of it, I grant you) I'm at work on Volume 3 of the books. Have the colored diamond borders all finished and am now working on the Companions (the little drawings of plants and animals that go inside the diamonds.) I keep finding that I've selected flowers that are invasive species, and then have to go and find replacements, so it's happening in fits and starts. I'm also a bit slow in getting revved up when a book first starts, so that's part of it. I tend to watch a little too much Netflix and don't concentrate.

Other than that, I actually vacuumed and mopped the floor last week! This is something that rarely happens, so it's an event.

Am waiting for new solar batteries for the house to arrive. My current ones are slowly dying, tho since I turned off the fridge (which I can only do this time of year), there's not much call for power, so even cloudy days like this and yesterday don't worry me much.

Gee, what an uneventful life. Suits me.
