Personally, I've always had attitudes (well, let's be honest – anger and condemnation) towards people who, whether individually or through the mask of a corporation or government, wantonly destroy the environment. Could never understand what motivates someone to self-destruct like that. But anger and condemnation always makes me suspicious of my own underlying motivations, so whenever the emotions arise, I start looking at myself.
Well, today I got it – people tear up the environment for the same unconscious reason that I self-destruct by overeating (to anyone who knows me, this ain't news). I'm not saying I have answers to the "why" of that, just that the root cause of the behavior is the same. Realizing this does, however, release some of the anger and attitude – something along the lines of "forgive them, for they know not what they do."
Just one less angry person, which can't be a bad thing.
